Who founded Grind Out Hunger? How did it get started?
Grind Out Hunger was founded by Danny Keith after the local food bank placed a collection barrel in his skate shop. When he realized that 1 in 8 kids were going hungry in Santa Cruz County he felt this was unacceptable and started going into schools to share the message of kids going hungry.
What is Grind Out Hunger’s mission?
To empower and educate the youth by utilizing the passion of skateboarding, surfing, snowboarding and music to take leadership in the fight against childhood hunger and malnutrition.
How is Grind Out Hunger organized? Who runs Grind Out Hunger?
Grind Out Hunger is a 501c3 charity based in Santa Cruz, California. We have a board of directors and staff members that manage our fundraising efforts and advocate.
Where does Grind Out Hunger get its funding from?
We get our funding from hunger fighter campaigns, grants, merchandise, website donations, corporate relationships and individuals. Currently Grind Out Hunger does not receive any government support.

Unfortunately no, when CBS did the hunger study in the early 70’s the USA had the chance to eradicate hunger in the country. It has been a steady increase with 17 million kids in the United States going food insecure.

Our unique style of communicating with the youth in action sports and music allows a multifaceted approach to engraining mission in young community leaders. Using the focus of happiness, passion and purpose with the cause of childhood hunger at the center. Grind Out Hunger is providing the key building blocks to community, philanthropy, food justice, food literacy, nutrition and real life curriculum opportunities such as video editing and skateboard product design.

Why wouldn’t we invest everything we have to improve a child’s life? Kids do not have choices of eating it is their circumstance. Grind Out Hunger empowers, educates and fights hunger with the youth. 100% of every dollar donated supports this mission.
Where do my donations and contributions to Grind Out Hunger go/how do they help to contribute to fighting hunger?
Donations fund the mission for Grind Out Hunger which continues to build the future of our communities while feeding kids. Empowering and educating the youth to Fight Hunger, Grind Out Hunger is the future of our youth. Funds are also donated to Food Banks in relation to the region it was donated, our Santa Cruz location supports Second Harvest Food Bank Santa Cruz County.

Is my donation tax deductible? How do I get a receipt for tax purposes?
Yes, your donation is tax deductible as allowed by the IRS, State and Federal Laws. When you donate online you will receive an email reciept. If you mail us a check we will mail you a receipt once your check it processed.

Can I make a donation in honor of someone? How do I do this?
Yes you can. During your donation checkout through Stayclassy.org there will be an option to “Dedicate my donation in honor or in memory of someone”. Check this option and you will be able to write the name/info of the individual(s) you are donating on behalf of.
I would like to give regularly. Does Grind Out Hunger have a monthly donation program?
Yes. During your donation checkout through stayclassy.org you can choose to make a “One-Time” or “Monthly” donation. If you click “Monthly” stayclassy.org will pull your monthly donation our of your specified bank account every month.
Do you have volunteer opportunities at Grind Out Hunger?
Yes. Please visit the VOLUNTEER PAGE and fill out the form. We will put you in our volunteer database and contact you when we have an opportunity available.
At what age can I/My Child volunteer?
We allow kids age of 13 or older to volunteer. Younger ages accompanied by an adult can also volunteer.
I am hosting an event and I want it to benefit Grind Out Hunger. How can I set this up?
