Dubbed, “Not Your Mom’s Food Drive,” the 2013 Grind Out Hunger Holiday Food Drive will challenge Santa Cruz County youth to step up and raise food and funds to help keep their friends from going hungry. “Kids are so altruistic. They are still so innocent. They are still so community minded,” says Danny Keith, Executive Director of Grind Out Hunger. “If you go to them and you tell them that one in four kids is going hungry, we see them step up in a fashion that adults sometimes have a hard time doing.” Since 2004, Grind Out Hunger has worked directly with the youth in Santa Cruz County raise over 2 million meals for families in need.
Each year, Keith visits schools throughout Santa Cruz County to talk to elementary through high school students about the childhood hunger epidemic that we have in our area and to motivate them to get involved and be a part of the solution. The 2013 Holiday Food Drive season runs from September 15th through December 15th. Grind Out Hunger recognizes all food drive participants in an annual awards dinner.
